Hmm, now this is something to think about. How many times a day does one make a choice. I know that I make several but never consider whether it would be in harmony with God or not in most cases. There are choices we make subconsciously and their are choices we make with our mind fully engaged. But can we truly say we make choices based on whether it would be in line with God or not. The answer isn't pretty but can be changed.

We all can change and move toward having our choices line up with God. But first we must be willing to do so. Most people will agree that we do things out of habit and don't really consider whether it would be something that would create harmony with God. Some people even say that is for pastors, missionaries and those who are called to the ministry. But it is for every believer who has been called to follow Christ. We are to work on becoming more like Christ in each and every situation. We are definitely a work in progress.

So how does one make choices that are in harmony with God? We must first be willing to change our thinking, be willing to surrender to the Lord in every area and then renew our mind. Yes, you will have to get out the old habits and put in new ones. You and I must spend time with the Lord, in His word and with those who are like-minded. I am working to return to this practice, I've fallen off the wagon. I am not perfect and I am grateful that I'm not expected to be so but I am pressing toward the mark like Paul encourages while forgetting those things that are behind so that I will have a closer, deeper and loving walk with the Lord. Yes, in harmony too. I have experienced the state of war that comes from going against the Lord's way and I don't like it. I know that I can change but sometimes I fall back on habit and do what is easy. Here in lies where I get in trouble and have wars to battle that could have been avoided. Praise God there is 1 John 1:9 for these times. I'm definitely a work in progress.

As I think on this quote more, I realize that as I make my choices in harmony with the Lord, I set the example for my dc to do the same. I realize that as I work to become more like Christ, they will too and we will all grow up into the full measure of Christ together. Wow, thats awesome. I am very thankful for a loving, forgiving and patient Lord. So, today I challenge us to memorize and act on Romans 12:1 & 2, so that making choices in harmony become a habit for us all.

Lord, thank you for your grace, your peace and patience. You are an awesome God and I am so thankful to know and be known by You. I seek to become more like you and to make choices that will bring glory and honor to You always. Amen!

This is truly something to think about on the heels of my despondency. I haven't had to deal with living my faith "informed or chic" but I am having to pray and lead my dc not to follow such a path. I truly believe that when we surrender our all to Him without all the baggage and strings the world has added to make it more appealing, we will see Him. He reveals Himself when we least expect, no need for us to be elaborate or impressive. He desires a meek and humble spirit fully trusting and believing that He is and will be all that we need Him to be.

Our father Abraham knew, Isaac knew, Jacob knew, Jesus knew, and Paul told us for he too knew. In order to see Him as He is, for Him to show Himself to us, we must first believe, trust and worship Him for who He is. It is awesome when He draws near. You know He's there, His presence is such a definite one that there is no mistaking it when He's near. He wants to be near to all His dc, He longs to show Himself to us so that we may know Him, trust Him and love Him as deeply as He loves us.

In the rush of life, working and homeschooling, I forgot the beauty of resting, inviting and receiving the Lord. I wasn't trying to conform my faith to any current ideas, I just let my faith become stagnant and un-exercised. I realize that most of my fatigue is directly related to my spiritual health.

Oh, the good news, He has drawn near today. Yes, today He has revealed Himself to me as I worshipped Him, as I gave Him the praise that was due His name, as I began to humble myself in the knowledge that I am nothing without Him and more than anything else "He loves me for who I am not what I do." Oh, I can say with a full heart that the Lord has made me glad this day that I know Him, that I choose to follow Him with my whole heart and as I do so, my dc will have an example of true worship so their faith will not be made informed or chic nor will they follow after things that are not of Him. I desire for us all, just as Paul, to walk circumspectly knowing what is our rightful calling in the Lord and to have an intimate relationship with Him ~ the Lord of Glory.

Lord, thank you for everything for you are truly awesome. You reach down to a wretched soul and you make it beautiful and whole. Lord, I want to see your Glory just as Abraham did and I long to see you face to face. You are an awesome God and I love you.

Hmm, now that I think about it, lately I've been quite like this bee when it comes to the Word of God. Thats not good, I know but I've been so out of it that I can't seem to sit down long enough to truly "penetrate into it." I know I'm missing the meat of the Word along with the "sweetness" of what God has for me but I've been so worn down that I just haven't done it. This quote is good food for thought, makes you sit down, chew on it a bit, look at it again and chew some more, just like I need to do with the Word of God.

I need refreshment, I need to take a new look at my life and allow the Holy Spirit to blow a fresh wind over my soul and spirit. I need God more now than I've ever in my life but I've been so despondent. This quote gave me a further glimpse into how far I've move away. I've been doing what is necessary, more like just enough and I need more. I need to dive in, to take full ownership of the Word of God and allow Him to renew my mind, my heart and my soul. Life can send you such a curve ball that you get lost in the midst of the cares. I am holding on though, I've not let go and I know in whom my help comes but I need to take these words seriously and spend more time with Him. Only then will I have the peace I desire and the answers to my questions.

Father, I come before You asking for your help. Lord, I desire a closer intimacy with you. I desire to penetrate the Word, to know fully what You have stored in it for me. To be able to extract the goodness, sweetness of Your Word and apply it to my circumstances. I long to be free of this place of mere existing and want to be living again in the fulness of Your presence. Thank you for your Word, for your precious Holy Spirit, and for giving me the peace that passes all understanding. You are an awesome God, and I love you.

Here I Stand Knocking


"One response was given by the innkeeper when Mary and Joseph wanted to find a room where the Child could be born. The innkeeper was not hostile; he was not opposed to them, but his inn was crowded; his hands were full; his mind was preoccupied. This is the answer that millions are giving today. Like a Bethlehem innkeeper, they cannot find room for Christ. All the accommodations in their hearts are already taken up by other crowding interests. Their response is not atheism. It is not defiance. It is preoccupation and the feeling of being able to get on reasonably well without Christianity."

This is so true of us today even those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Lord. We still are pre-occupied with the things of the world and we sometimes, more often than we care to admit, miss God. I remember as a child being told that Jesus stands at the door of your heart knocking, will you let Him in? As I reflect on the fact that this quote has so much meaning and so many different things you could talk about, I still can hear in my heart one defining truth for us all.

What is the condition of your heart? Are you allowing Jesus in to do what He promised? Or are you trying to still be the Lord of your life though you have accepted Him as your Saviour?

Oh, I am not pointing fingers, don't misunderstand me. I am speaking to myself more than to any of you. I am that innkeeper ~ working, cleaning, thinking, tired and too pre-occupied to spend just 15 mins, let alone 1 hr at the feet of the Master. I have too much Martha and not enough Mary going on.

This is the time of year we all say "Jesus is the reason for the season," but it seems hollow this year. Its as if we have missed Him and His reason all year long and now we are trying to cram it into one day at the end of the year. I don't know about you but I really need to start cutting away things that keep me so busy that I miss a visit from the Lord. I need to be diligent and consistent to take time to wait for His arrival and then just be when He shows up. I need to stop being so concerned about this and that, and start focusing on who I am in Christ and how to become more like Him every minute of my day.

So, I challenge you and myself ~ will we stop being so busy and take the time to stop, open the door and let the King of Glory come in and dwell among us? Lets start today and make it an everyday occurance so when He sends someone along our path that needs to meet Him, we can invite them in too.
